Funeral services for Clarence Engel, 72, of Early, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
A memorial mass of the Christian burial was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early on Monday, April 16, 2001. Father Patrick O'Kane officiated the 10:30 a.m. memorial.
Honorary attendants were Brian Naughton, Douglas Johnson, Keith Naughton, Adam Johnson, David Engel, Josh Chindlund and Jeff Naughton.
Burial was at the Sacred Heath Cemetery in Early. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Sac City was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Engel passed away Friday, April 13, 2001, at the Park View Care Center in Sac City.
Clarence John, the son of Lenard and Elizabeth (Hatting) Engel, was born Aug. 21, 1928, in Early. He graduated from Early High School.
On June 26, 1953, he married Janet Eleanor Roose in Early. The couple made their home southwest of Early where they farmed and also had a trucking business.
Mr. Engel was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early. His hobbies included Nascar racing, watching western movies and keeping his semi-truck shined.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Joe Engel, George Engel and Tony Engel and one sister Bertha Schmitt.
Mr. Engel is survived by his wife Janet; one son and his wife Stephen and Mary Lou Engel of Sac City; three daughters: Shirley and her husband Ed Naughton of Lake City, Beverly Reinart of Allen, Neb. and Ann and her husband Troy Chindlund of Rembrandt, as well as 14 grandchildren.
