All property owners in Buena Vista County are receiving updated valuations this year after the county assessor's office completed a labor-intensive survey of the entire county.
"We did every residential property in Buena Vista County - that includes farms, rural residences and urban housing," said assessor Ted Van Grootheest.
The assessor's office has not done individual site appraisals for almost six years, he said.
"We actually visited the sites because assessments were too low according to sales that have taken place," said Van Grootheest.
He said no specific area had unusual leaps in sales or values, but said sales increases were a general trend across the county.
Individual valuations are not done regularly. "We only do it when we see a need to do it," Van Grootheest said.
The Board of Review will meet before May 30 to certify the new valuations and to hear any protests from property owners.
