Chuck Offenburger, writer-in residence at Buena Vista University, will be the featured speaker at the annual open house of the Buena Vista County Historical Society on Sunday, April 22, at the museum located at 214 West 5th Street, Storm Lake.
Offenburger will present "A New Storm Laker's View of a Historic Time in Buena Vista County," during the 2 p.m. program. Songs of the '40s and '50s will be presented by the "X Chicks," a vocal trio of Brenda Samuelson, Roxie Brostad and Sherry Knudtson.
The annual meeting of the society will be at 1 p.m. and is open to anyone interested. Refreshments will be served following the program.
This will be the first opportunity for the general public to view the new display, "Good Old Days," and to see the latest additions to the Main Street in the rear of the museum building.
The museum construction crew has recreated a theatre, blacksmith shop, furniture store, apothecary, jewelry store, the Rembrandt Bank, doctor's office and hotel. Old-timers can reminisce with the block ice making, Don Carl's insulator collection and veterans display. Murals by Danuta Hutchens can also be viewed.
The "Good Old Days" display in the front of the building features memory reminders of toys for girls, Girl Scout Troop 2, sports equipment of yesterday and musical instruments.
The afternoon will be of interest to all ages.
