Anderson resigns from Alta police department

Thursday, April 19, 2001

Alta Police Officer Mike Anderson submitted his resignation during a special city council meeting this week.

Anderson resigned after seven years with the department. Anderson also served the community of Alta and Aurelia as a D.A.R.E. officer, instructing students to stay away from drugs and alcohol through a six-week program.

Anderson and his family will move to West Union in eastern Iowa, where he will serve in similar roles as a police and D.A.R.E. officer.

"This is something that I've been looking at for some time," Anderson said. "We will be closer to family. My family is very much excited about that. We'll also be closer to Waterloo and Dubuque and we're looking really forward to that."

Though Anderson is excited about the move, he said he will miss the residents and the city of Alta.

"I've enjoyed my time here in Alta and getting to know different people and all of the parents," Anderson said. "I'll especially miss working with the schools and the D.A.R.E. program in Alta.

"The people here have been very good to me. If there was ever something bad that happened, they'd always be concerned and ask a lot of questions. I will miss that."

Anderson will work for the city of Alta until April 27. He begins work in West Union on May 1.
