Lenox romps past WLVA nine, 10-0

Third-seeded Lenox rolled into the 1A finals with a 10-0, six inning win over Wall Lake View Auburn on Thursday afternoon at Principal Park.

Lenox (27-5) got out to an early lead and rolled to the victory. The Tigers put a five spot on the board in the second inning. The first five batters of the inning reached base and eventually scored. Todd Kinker and Grant Calvin had RBI singles to pace the Tigers.

The lead stretched to 7-0 with single runs in the third and fifth innings. Seth Robinson reached on an error in the third and later scored on Cruz Reed's RBI single. Wade Samo singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Josh Reed in the fifth.

Lenox put the game away in the sixth with three runs. Kalab Evans had a two-run single and Samo singled home the 10th run of the game.

Samo (14-2) went the distance to earn the win for Lenox. He scattered four hits and struck out nine. Chris Woerdehoff (7-2) took the loss for WLVA.

Lenox moves on to Saturday's 1A final at noon. The Tigers will face Sentral for the title. WLVA ends its season at 29-8.

Class 1A Semifinal

Sentral 9, LeMars Gehlen 8

Sentral rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh for a thrilling 9-8 win over Gehlen Catholic on Thursday afternoon at Principal Park. Sentral moves on to Saturday afternoon's 1A finals.

The game got off to a wild start with each team batting around in the first inning. Gehlen scored three runs on two hits in the top of the inning, but stranded the bases loaded. Sentral scored four runs on four hits in their half of the first.

Gehlen batted around again in the top of the second scoring four runs on three hits. Mitch Kurth and Craig Schlesser had RBI singles.

Sentral got to within 7-5 in the third on Steven Looft's sacrifice fly. Gehlen pushed the lead back to three scoring a single run in the fourth.

Sentral pulled to within 8-6 in the sixth when Ryan Luedtke drew a bases-loaded walk. Then in the bottom of the seventh they scored three times to pull out the 9-8 win.

Shaun McGuire was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 8-7, then Brice Boeckholt ripped a two-run single to end the game.

Aaron Siefken (6-2) pitched six strong innings in relief to earn the win for Sentral. Alex Loutsch (8-4) took the loss for Gehlen.

Sentral will play for the 1A title on Saturday at noon. They will face the Lenox. Gehlen Catholic ends the season with a 18-15 record.

In Class 2A semifinal round action, Davenport Assumption beat Mid-Prairie 8-2 and North Polk routed Center Point-Urbana 11-0. In Class 3A Friday, Cedar Rapids Xavier pounded Charlies City 11-5. In the other 3A semi, Carroll played Western Dubuque Friday but results were not availabe at press time.
