National Night Out plans set

Tuesday, July 25, 2006

The Storm Lake Police Department is once again making plans for the Annual National Night Out Event which is scheduled for Tuesday evening, August 1.

The department is asking citizens throughout the community to go outside, reacquaint themselves with their neighbors and re-commit to each other their willingness to report crime and suspicious behavior in their neighborhoods.

National Night Out is an international event which occurs the first Tuesday evening in August every year. In cities throughout the United States and on our military bases around the world neighbors join with neighbors to collectively say that crime is not welcome in our neighborhoods or communities.

In addition citizens are asked to turn their front porch light on that night to show solidarity in working together to keep the streets of our community safe.

The citizens of Storm Lake have established a strong tradition hosting dozens of block parties every year. Police, fire and paramedic officers will visit the parties to share information.

To host or sponsor a block party or receive additional information, contact Capt. Bob Swanson at 712-732-8010.
