Alta senior Brad Payne tossed a six-hitter here Wednesday night, and Andrew Allerdings' two-run homer in the sixth gave the Cyclones a Northwest Conference title in walk-off fashion.
Alta led 10-2 going into the bottom of the sixth, and Allerdings' homer put into effect the ten-run rule for the win.
"The guys were really pumped for this game, knowing they could clinch the conference championship with a win," said Alta coach Jerry Braunschweig.
Offensively, the Cyclones started fast, scoring two runs in the first and four in the third for a 6-0 lead after three frames. Alta added four more runs in the fourth.
Payne gave up two runs in the top of the third, but limited the potent Sioux Central offense to six hits. He walked one and struck out six.
"Brad did a nice job on the mound even though he didn't have his best stuff," Braunschweig said. "Our hitters gave him plenty of support and overall, it was a great team effort."
Allerdings and senior outfielder Anand Hase had big nights at the plate, with both driving in four runs. Allerdings went 3 for 4 with a double and a homer, while Hase went 2 for 4 with a double.
Payne hit two singles in three at-bats, and Austin Stille was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Scott Radke added an RBI single and Jack Mills a single and a stolen base.
Both teams made five errors.
