The Aurelia softball team might be one squad not many teams would like to face early in district/ region playoffs.
The Bulldogs scored nine runs in the second inning on their home field here Wednesday night, cruising to an 11-1 win over Sac City in five innings.
"Our girls came out and took charge of this game," said Aurelia coach Jason Heeren. "Offensively, we put the ball in play better than we have all year."
Heeren added that just one Bulldog hitter struck out and one walked.
"Eighth-grader Erin Laursen had a great night, going 2 for 3 with an inside-the-park homer over the rightfielder's head," Heeren added.
Emily Rohlk went the full five innings, scattering six hits, walking one and striking out one.
Tara Fordyce also had a productive night at the plate, going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and a stolen base.
Junior Kristine Munden hit a double, drove in three runs, scored twice and stole a base. Emily Sonksen and Rohlk each hit singles.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 4-5 in Northwest Conference action and to 7-6 overall.
"Emily pitched a gem for us and our defense was great behind her," Heeren said. "We also had two great plays at the plate by Jana Radke. This game was just a lot of fun for us."
