Newell-Fonda's Hetrick sets Alta Relays record

ALTA - Newell-Fonda's Ashley Hetrick threw the shot put 31 feet, 11 inches to set a new meet record to highlight area performances at the Alta Relays girls track and field meet on Tuesday night.

Hinton won the Class A team title. Schaller-Crestland was second, Newell-Fonda third and Alta fifth. Ar-We-Va won the Class B title. AC-T finished fourth, Storm Lake St. Mary's fifth and Aurelia sixth.

Hetrick, who placed first in the shot, also won the discus with a throw of 100-11.

The Mustangs' shuttle hurdle relay tandem of Alicia Tiedeman, Amanda Devereaux, Amber Scharton and Jenny Scharn placed second with a time of 1 minute, 18 seconds.

The 4x200 unit finished second in 2:10.75.

Placing third for the Mustangs were Tiffani Jarvis in the 3,000 meters in 14:38, Emily Koster in the 800 meters in 2:43, Scharn in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:19, the sprint medley relay, the 4x800 relay in 11:49 and the 4x400 relay in 5:10.
