Sixteen Storm Lake High School Students traveled to Emmetsburg April 4 and 5 to compete in the Skills USA Vocational Industrial Club of America (VICA) state skills competition at Iowa Lakes Community College.
The Storm Lake Skills USA-VICA chapter is in its 4th year, and took home two first place prizes. Those students will travel to Kansas City this summer for national competition.
Placing first this year in competition were Brian Beal in collision repair technology and Nick Moodie in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration.
Second place finishers include the three-person team of Matt Gervais, Brandon Ebersole and Brandon Purviance in automated manufacturing technology.
Third place finishers included Chris Axdahl in motorcycle service technology and Eric Klatt in carpentry.
Other competitors included A.J. Spielman and Scott Baraibar in cabinet making, Cullen Vredenburg and Pete Bodholdt in carpentry, Leland Staton in air cooled gas engine repair, Mike Kestel and Jennifer Salas in architectural drafting, Andy Pittman in automotive service technology and Tyler Heinshon in welding.
