Entries sought for pageant, area scholarship programs

The Miss Great Lakes of Iowa and Miss Northwest Iowa Scholarship programs will be held at Iowa Lakes Community College auditorium in Estherville on Aug. 4.

The time to seek one of four crowns is now, as the May 15 deadline is fast approaching.

Crowning the Teen Miss Great Lakes of Iowa and Li'l Miss Great Lakes of Iowa will be held in the afternoon. In the evening, a new Miss Great Lakes of Iowa and a Miss Northwest Iowa will be selected. Under the auspices of the Miss America Scholarship Program and the Miss Iowa Scholarship Program, the Miss Great Lakes of Iowa and Miss Northwest Iowa Scholarship Program is now soliciting entries of young women from Buena Vista, Palo Alto, Clay, Dickinson, Emmett and Pocahontas Counties.

Contestants in the Miss Great Lakes of Iowa and Miss Northwest Iowa Scholarship Programs will receive scholarship assistance for college endeavors. Competition will include a 12-minute interview with judges, a two-minute talent performance, swimsuit and on-stage personality in evening wear.

Young women must be at least 17 years of age and no older than 24 by Aug. 4, 2001. The reigning Miss Great Lakes of Iowa, Andrea Petska, of Spencer is preparing for her appearance in the 2001 Miss Iowa Pageant as is Miss Northwest Iowa, Stephanie Moore, of Okoboji.
