RUDE TO ATTEND MORNINGSIDE

Storm Lake senior Stephanie Rude next fall will attend Morningside College, where she will compete in track and field.

She placed seventh at the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.12 seconds at the Class 3A Coed State Meet in Des Moines last weekend.

She was also the 2006 Lakes Conference 100 meter champion, winning that title in 12.86 seconds A week later, Rude won the 100 meter district title with a time of 12.69 seconds.

Rude ran the anchor legs on the Tornadoes' 4x100 and 4x200 relays this year. Storm Lake's 4x100 team placed seventh at state last weekend while the 4x200 relay team placed eighth.

Rude was a 100 dash qualifier last year as a junior and is a three-time qualifier in the 4x100 relay.

MAJOR LEAGUE TRYOUT CAMP

The 41st annual Major League Baseball try-out camp will be held at Godberson Field in Ida Grove on Thursday, June 22.

Major League techniques will be demonstrated to young men from ages 16 to 22. The clinic/tryout camp starts at 9 a.m.

According to a press release from the camp's organizers, there will be between 10 and 12 Major League scouts conducting the camp. They are representing a number of Major League teams. College coaches will also help with the camp.

Interested athletes may also call 1-800-827-1650 and request an entry form. There is no cost to participate in the camp.

GOLF CAMP TO BE OFFERED

Storm Lake coach Staci Maloy and Lake Creek Country Club pro Melea Raveling will be offering a golf camp to students in grades 1-8 this summer.

The camp will be held at Lake Creek Country Club from June 13-15. First through fourth graders will attend the camp from 11 a.m. until noon, followed by the fifth through eighth-graders from noon to 1 p.m.

This is an opportunity for your child to learn the skills needed to play a game that is a lifetime sport. Clubs will be needed to participate.

On June 15, all campers will meet at 11 a.m. to participate in a round of golf, which is included in the camp fee of $30. The registration deadline for the camp is June 9.

TENNIS CAMP IS SCHEDULED

Storm Lake High tennis coach Ron Netten will be offering a tennis camp June 5-9 at the Storm Lake High tennis courts.

Beginners (third and fourth graders), will participate from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Advanced Beginners, or for those entering fifth through eighth grades, will participate from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. Following will be intermediates, or high school-aged, from 4-6 p.m.The registration deadline for all tennis camps is June 2.

N-F GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP

The Newell-Fonda girls basketball camp, headed by N-F girls basketball coach Dick Jungers, will be held June 26-30 from 8:30 a.m. until noon for students going into grades 4-8 next fall. The cost of the camp is $50 and is designed to be a fun way to learn more about the game and to work on fundamentals.
