40th annual Cherokee PRCA Rodeo in the chute for June 1-3
The plans and colorful, entertaining events are being finalized for the upcoming 2006 Cherokee PRCA Rodeo scheduled for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, June 1-3 at the Cherokee Fair Grounds.
Cherokee's 40th annual PRCA Rodeo includes performances at 7:30 p.m. each day by the the world's top cowboys and cowgirls who covet the high-quality shows produced by Barnes/MJM Rodeo of Cherokee and Peterson.
The Thursday slate includes the Miss Rodeo Cherokee Horsemanship Competition from 3-4:30 p.m.; Family Fun Night complete with free pony rides, petting zoo, and many games and attractions from 5-7 p.m.; Mutton Bustin', Bitty Barrel Racing, and Justin Boot Race at 6 p.m.; and the PRCA Rodeo at 7:30 p.m.
The busy Friday begins with the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce Coffee at Best Western LaGrande Hacienda at 9:30 a.m., the Miss Rodeo Speech and modeling Competition to follow; the Queen's Luncheon at Bits and Pieces from 11:30 a.m. -1 p.m.; the renowned Abu Bekr White Horse Mounted Patrol exhibition at 5:30 p.m., and again at Friday's 7:30 p.m. rodeo performance.
Saturday "Star Spangled Salute" festivities include the popular Western BBQ at the historic, renovated IC Railroad Depot from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.; the large Rodeo Parade through downtown Cherokee at 4 p.m.; miniature Bucking Bulls at 6 p.m.; the arrival of the American Flag at 7 p.m.; and at 7:30 p.m. the rodeo performance.
A new rodeo event this year features Team Roping sponsored by Ruba Quarter Horses of Marcus, with team roping events scheduled for all three rodeo performances.
Also, the Cherokee Bowl just south of the Rodeo Grounds is hosting an outdoor concert Saturday night from 9 - midnight, featuring the band "100 Proof." There is a $5 per person cover charge.
The popular and entertaining PRCA Rodeo announcer Kelly Kinney will again be in the saddle for all three performances.
The 40th annual Cherokee PRCA Rodeo will be produced by hall of Fame Stock Contractor Bob and Donita Barnes and family of Barnes/MJM Rodeo.
Events include Bareback Riding, Calf Roping, Saddle Bronc, Steer Wrestling, Barrel Racing, Team Roping Ruba Quarter Horses and of course, the Bull Riding.
Ticket prices for the Thursday and Friday performances are $8 in advance for adults and $10 at the gate. Children are $4 advance and $5 at the gate. Children under age three are admitted free.
In addition, fans can buy an adult Super pass for $25 that is good for all three performances.
