The Green Team, a kid's garden club, will meet at the Prairie Pedlar again this summer to develop garden skills and enjoy nature crafts, flower fun, and outdoor games. Every Wednesday in June and July from 8:30-11:00 a.m. children 8 years old and older are invited to participate. This summer, the classes will focus on eight different theme gardens: the Butterfly Garden, Rock Garden, Pressed Flower Garden, Fairy Garden, Edible Flower Garden, Tussie Mussie Garden, Fragrant Garden, and Everlasting Flower Garden.
Sessions will concentrate on the plants that make these theme gardens unique, the main focal points in each garden, and crafts associated with them. In addition, time will also be spent each morning "practicing" simple garden skills and harvesting flowers in the Secret Garden - a secluded garden spot that the Green Team has taken ownership of the last several years. The goal is to develop garden expertise that will last a lifetime.
The registration format allows for flexibility with summer schedules: swimming lessons, scouts, Bible School, camps, etc. The cost for each session is $6 per child. Each participant commits to a minimum of four sessions for a fee of $24.00, selecting the dates and topics of their own choosing. Students are welcome to sign up for more than four sessions if desired. There is a take-home project as well as a mid-morning snack at each session.
Pre-register by May 31. For a detailed schedule of events and activities, and an application form contact Jane Hogue at the Prairie Pedlar in rural Odebolt at 712-668-4840.
