Luella Grace Gunther was born July 11, 1926, in Beatrice, Nebraska, to Rudolph and Hattie (Neuman) Gunther. She received the blessings of Holy Baptism and was later confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beatrice, Nebraska. She attended country school.
Luella made her home with her parents and her bother, Dick, southwest of Beatrice. A few years after the death of their parents, Luella and Dick moved to a farm east of Wymore, Nebraska. Luella enjoyed the farm and was attentive to any animal that needed some TLC. She helped in anyway she was able from milking, caring for calves, and chickens, to doing some gardening. She also enjoyed listening to the radio and was always busy with a craft, which she found great pleasure and joy in giving her craft creations to family members. She had a great fondness for birds and was often making felt red cardinals.
After the death of her brother in September of 1977, Luella moved into a mobile home on her niece, Patricia's farm near Alta. While living there, she was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in rural Hanover. In 1982, she moved to her niece, Dianna's farm near Clarinda and attended Immanuel Lutheran Church. In 1995, Luella moved to the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake and resided there until her passing at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake on April 29.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Minnie Wessel, Emma Rupprecht, Hattie Penner, Agnes Carper, who had been her roommate the past three years until her death March 10, Burnetta Gunther, and Pauline Gunther; and six brothers, Rudolph, Richard, Paul, Rudie, Fritz, and Raymond.
Luella is survived by one sister, Juneatta Harpster of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Gunther of Beatrice, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her for her spunky ways.
