The Alta boys track and field team was in a comfort zone on its home track Tuesday, winning the Class A Division of the Alta Boys Relays.
The Cyclones finished with 176 points to 112 for Sioux Central. Schaller-Crestland was third with 82 points, while Newell-Fonda was fourth with 64.
In the Class B competition, Ar-We-Va won with 147 points, edging Aurelia, which finished with 138 points. Storm Lake-St. Mary's took sixth place.
Alta coach Wendell Larson was pleased with his team's performance.
"Our team is continuing to improve," he said. "We have a lot of guys who are contributing, and everyone is giving a great effort.
"Tyler Sliefert, Mike Huseman and Brian Sauter each had great nights with several season and career bests," Larson said.
The coach added that Brian Sauter beat his twin brother Kyle's school record in the high hurdles, beating him by .03 seconds, eclipsing Kyle's record by .01.
Brian Sauter was also a double individual winner, winning the 110 hurdles in a school record time of 14.98 seconds. Brian added a first in the 400 hurdles with a new meet record time of 56.62 seconds.
Two Alta relays also captured first places. The 4x100 team of Jake Bibler, Huseman, Chris Schmitz and Jack Mills was first in 47.16 seconds. The 4x400 team of Huseman, Brad Payne, Kyle Sauter and Brian Sauter was first in 3:36.21.
Alta's Miah Haller was second in the discus (131-3), while Kyle Sauter was second in the long jump (19-.05 feet) and in the high jump (5-8). Huseman added a second in the 100 dash (11.77), with Kyle Sauter taking second in the 400 meters in 54.38 seconds.
Jordan Letzring was third in the 3200 meters in 10:49.32, with Kyle Sauter taking second in the 110 high hurdles (15.02). Alta's 4x800 team of Tyler Boyd, Nick Sand, Tyler Sliefert and Payne was second in 8:37.83. Sioux Central was led by two individual first places and by winning two relays.
Taking firsts for the Rebels were Jesse Steece in the high jump (5-10) and Connor Lindquist in the 3200 (10:44.56). Sioux Central added first places in the 4x800 and 1600 medley relays.
Taking seconds for the Rebels were: Nick Sennert in the shot put (45-3), Marshall Wernimont in the 800 meters (2:11.73) and Lindquist in the 1600 meters (5:06.02).
In taking third, Schaller-Crestland was led by double individual winner Kiley Murra. The sophomore took first in the shot put (49-11) and the discus (143-7). Jeremy Robley took first in the 200 dash in 23.55 seconds.
Schaller-Crestland took first in the 4x200 relay (1:35.92) and a second in the 4x400 relay (3:36.21). Individually, Cody Galvin was second in the 400 low hurdles in 57.11 seconds.
Newell-Fonda was led by a first place in the 400 meter dash by Peter Olsen, who won in 52.44 seconds. Garrett Bruner took second in the 200 meter dash in 24.19 seconds and Luke Sarchet was third in the shot put with a toss of 42-10.
The Mustangs' 1600 medley relay team was second in 3:48.97 and the 4x100 team second in 47.70.
In the B division, Aurelia took second on the strength three first places by Jared Bruce.
Jared won the 3200 meters (10:13.39), the 800 meters (2:14.40) and the 1600 meters (4:54.237. His brother Jacob took a first place in the 400 meters in 53.67 seconds.
In the field events, Anthony Fowler led the Bulldogs with a second in the high jump (5-6).
Storm Lake St. Mary's was was led by fourth place in the long jump by Jon Foell (17-11.25).
The Alta boys will compete Friday in a meet in Marcus. The NW Conference meet will be Monday, May 1 at Early.
