Deadline for dedicating veteran's flags approaching

Tuesday, April 10, 2001

The board of directors of the Storm Lake Parade of Flags announce the deadline for registering deceased veteran's flags to be dedicated on Memorial Day will be Monday, April 30.

The annual flag dedication ceremony is set to take place at 10 a.m. Monday, May 28, on the southwest lawn of the Buena Vista County Courthouse. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the Storm Lake High School gymnasium.

Family members wishing to have their loved one's flag included in the 2001 program may deliver them to the Storm Lake Fire Station, the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce office or to any local Storm Lake funeral director.

A fee of $85.00 covers the cost of registration, the flag pole and perpetual care of the flag. Families wishing to keep the original veteran burial flag may purchase a replacement flag from the Foundation at a cost of $75.00. This flag will then become a permanent part of the Storm Lake Parade of Flags Memorial.

Any flag received after the April 30 deadline will be dedicated in 2002.
