Arnolds Park plans preview, 'Water Wars' will debut

Thursday, April 27, 2006

In just a few weeks, the Legend roller coaster will be roaring, the bumper cars will be crashing and the smell of cotton candy will be in the air. The Arnolds Park Amusement Park is scheduled to open for the season on May 20. A preview day is planned May 13.

"We are having another preview kick-off at the park this year," said Ann Thoreson. "Last year was so successful that we decided to do it again."

Ann and Mike Thoreson and Ellen and Stac Schneider are the co-chairs of the Arnolds Park Amusement Park's kick-off party on May 12. Both families hope to preserve the historic attraction for future generations.

"We want to make sure this park is still around for our kids and their kids," said Ellen.

After an overwhelming turnout to last year's preseason kick-off party, Arnolds Park will again say thank you to the public by giving free rides from 3-5 p.m., Saturday May 13.

Before the gates open, there will be a drawing for the first ride of the season on the roller coaster. Season memberships for 2006 will be available for purchase and free t-shirts or water bottles will be given while supplies last to all those that purchase memberships.

New for the 2006 season will be an attraction called "Water Wars," a family activity which features a water balloon launcher. A new mini-donut machine will also serve park patrons.
