Buena Vista Community Theatre has chosen to produce Rogers and Hammerstein's classic "State Fair" as the summer musical at the newly-restored Roxy theater in Alta.
"State Fair" is Rogers and Hammerstein's only musical written directly for the screen. Set against the colorful backdrop of an American heartland tradition, "State Fair" travels with the Frake family as they leave behind the routine of farm life for three days of adventure at the Iowa State Fair. Mom and Pop have their hearts set on blue ribbons while their daughter and son find romance and heartbreak on the midway.
The cast will include:
* Principals: three men; three women
* Featured: seven men; four women; one girl
* Numerous small roles: a singing and dancing chorus; speciality acts (juggling, unicycle, acrobats, etc.)
* Orchestra members
This year's production will be directed by Jon Paulson of Buena Vista University, musical director is Kim Wankum, and accompanist, Jeanette Hinkelday.
Performances will be June 30, July 1, July 7, July 8, July 9.
Auditions are planned for May 8 and May 9 at the Roxy Theater, from 7-9 p.m.
