Event comes to aid of popular 'Pop Chef' after stroke, life-flight

Monday, April 24, 2006

A Pancake Benefit Breakfast for Dave Brueck (aka Dave Debris) will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 7th at the KC Hall with the Kiwanis Beavers serving pancakes and sausages. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children, and youngsters 5 and under are free.

Dave has been a part-time maintenance worker at BVU for three years. He suffered a stroke and was life-flighted to a Sioux City Hospital on April 4th, where he remained hospitalized for a week.

Dave is making an

excellent recovery; however, he has no medical insurance to cover the high cost of his care.

Friends at BVU have organized this Pancake Benefit to assist him with his costs and to show their appreciation for a colleague who is passionate about work and life.

"Dave's presence on the job in the Lage Communication building makes every workday at BVU just a little bit better. Students love him and demanded a chance to raise money on his behalf," said communications professor Bruce Ellingson, a colleague of Dave's at BVU.

Brueck is better known as "Dave Debris," a popular Sunday afternoon DJ on KBVU 97.5 The Edge. He is also half of the "Pop Chef" duo of Dave and Tim Debris who appear on the University Cable Network.

Pancake breakfast tickets are on sale at the BVU Mail & Printing Office or at LaFamme Salon downtown. Tickets are also being sold by members of KBVU, University Cable Network, and The Tack. Tickets will be available at the door, or donations may be mailed to Dave Brueck Benefit, in care of Lavonda Herron, BVU, 610 W. 4th St. Storm Lake, 50588.
