Area boys track teams fare well in Ida Grove
Three area teams boys track and field teams scored well here last Tuesday at the Odebolt-Arthur Invitational held at the Ida Grove High track.
Sac City/ WLVA won the meet with 89 points and Southern Cal was second with 89. Battle Creek-Ida Grove was third with 79 points, with Schaller-Crestland fourth with 52 points.
Newell-Fonda was sixth with 50 points and Laurens-Marathon seventh with 49.
Schaller-Crestland won the 4x400 relay with a time of 3 minutes, 39.37 seconds, two seconds faster than second-place Sac City/WLVA.
The Wildcats added a second in the 4x200 relay in 1:38.16 and a third place in the 1600 medley relay in 4:00.60. They also took fourth in the 4x100 relay in 47.23 seconds.
Individually for S-C, Cody Galvin was the lone first place finisher, taking top honors in the 400 meter hurdles in 58.51 seconds Jeremy Robley took second in the 200 meter dash in 23.72 seconds, while Ray Wedeking was fifth in the 800 meters in 2:17.39.
In the field events, Schaller-Crestland sophomore Kiley Murra was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 44 feet, 2.5 inches.
In taking sixth, Newell-Fonda was led by a first place in the 4x800 relay. The team of Chad Buchholz, Josh Hopper, Peter Olsen and David Hopper took top honors in 8:52.33.
The Mustangs added another first place in the 1600 medley relay, as the team of Josh Hopper, Nathan Miller, Buchholz and David Hopper won in 3:54.41.
Two other relay teams took third places. The 4x200 team of Andy Hegarty, Garrett Bruner, Josh Hopper and Nathan Miller was third in 1:39.61. The Mustangs' 4x400 team of Josh Hopper, Bruner, Buchholz and David Hopper was third in 3:42.31.
Individually, senior Peter Olsen was third in both the 800 meters (2:17.09) and the 400 meter dash (54.16 seconds). Patrick Ryherd added a fourth place in the 3200 meters in 11:57.12.
The Mustangs' 4x100 team of Matt Sievers, Zach Utech, Olsen and Miller was fifth in 49.07 seconds.
Laurens-Marathon was led by its sprinters, as Keton Joynt was second in the 100 meter dash in 11.44 seconds. Defending Class 1A 110 high hurdle champion Nick Kuchel of Kingsley-Pierson was first in the 100 in 11.03 seconds.
LM's John Griffin added a third in the 200 meter dash in 23.73 seconds, while Cody Fassler was second behind Galvin in the 400 meter hurdles in 17.80 seconds.
Fassler was fifth in the 110 high hurdles in 1:00.18, while Jason Gustafson took sixth in the 400 meters (58.18 seconds) and Ryan Sernett was sixth in the 400 hurdles in 1:05.04.
In the field events, Griffin was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 8 inches.
The Chargers were third in the 4x100 relay in 46.40 seconds. They were fifth in both the 4x800 relay (9:10.66) and the 1600 medley relay (4:15.37) and sixth in the 4x400 relay in 3:46.79.
