Brian Sauter leads Alta to 2nd place finish

Despite two individual first places from Brian Sauter and firsts in two relays, the Alta High boys track and field team took second to Algona Bishop Garrigan in the Alta Co-Ed meet here Tuesday.

Bishop Garrigan took five individual firsts and won three relays, finishing with 173 points. The Cyclones were second with 158 points, followed by Aurelia (80 points), Remsen-St. Mary's (72) and Pomeroy-Palmer (37) Following were the Alta JV (18) and Storm Lake-St. Mary's (6).

Sauter took firsts in the 400 low hurdles in 59.36 seconds and in the 110 high hurdles (15.32 seconds).

The Cyclones' 4x800 team of Brad Payne, Tyler Sliefert, Nick Sand and Tyler Boyd won in 8 minutes, 50.06 seconds, with the 1600 medley relay team of Jake Bibler, Chris Schmitz, Kyle Sauter and Boyd winning in 3:59.74.

In the other relays, Alta's 4x100 team of Bibler, Scott Radke, Mike Huseman and Jack Mills was second in 47.44 seconds with the 4x400 of Schmitz, Radke, Kyle Sauter and Brian Sauter also taking second in 4:45.15. The 4x200 team of Bibler, Radke, Huseman and Mills added a third place in 1:38.53.

Payne led Alta in the field events, taking second in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 11 inches. Brian Sauter was second in the high jump with a leap of 5-8 and Miah Haller second in the discus (119-8.5).

Also for the Cyclones, Morgan Van Houten was third in the shot put (41-4.5), with Huseman sixth in the long jump (16 feet. .05 inches). Jared Buckendahl of the Alta JV was fifth in that event with a leap of 16-11.

Luke Ridout was third in the high jump (5-6). Radke added a sixth in the high jump (5-4), with Van Houten sixth in the discus (103-2.5).

In open track events, the Cyclones took five second places. They included Jordan Letzring in the 3200 meters (10:56.15), Kyle Sauter in the 200 dash (24.1 seconds) and the 110 high hurdles (15.32 seconds), Sliefert in the 1600 meters (5:01.54), and Payne in the 400 meters (54.47 seconds). Payne added a third place in the 800 meters in 2:14.12.

Taking fourth places for the Cyclones were Sliefert in the 400 low hurdles (1:05.20), Mills in the 100 dash (11.95 seconds), Sand in the 800 meters (2:16.95) and Letzring in the 1600 meters 1600 meters (5:12.25). Mills added a sixth in the 200 dash in 25.37 seconds.

In taking third, Aurelia was led by a first place from Jared Bruce in the 1600 meters (4:56.25).

The Bulldogs' 4x200 relay team of Mike White, Kyle Doherty, Aaron Hinkeldey and Jacob Bruce was second in 1:37.95, while the 4x800 team of Jared Bruce, Aaron Bruce, Hinkeldey and Jacob Bruce was second in 9:05.56. Aurelia's 1600 medley relay team of White, Doherty, Jacob Bruce and Jared Bruce was second in 4:03.56, while its 4x100 team of White, Doherty, Hinkeldey and Jacob Brucewas fourth in 47.91 seconds. In the field events, Aurelia's Anthony Fowler was fifth in the long jump (5-4).

In the open events on the track, Mike White was third in the 400 low hurdles (no time available), while Chris Mikos was fourth in the 3200 meters in 11:40.39 and Steve White fourth in the 110 hurdles in 19.85 seconds.

Also for the Bulldogs, Jake Biggerstaff was fifth in the 400 meters in 1:00.27. Adding sixth places were Tanner Winterhof in the 3200 meters (12:13.54) and Camrin Meyer in the 110 high hurdles (20.27 seconds).
