SL boys linksters beat N-F by a stroke

The Storm Lake High boys golf team had a tough test here Monday at the Newell Golf Course, beating Newell-Fonda 153-154 in a nine-holt dual meet.

The Mustangs' were led by a 35 from meet medalist Matt Spaulding and a 37 from Austin Vanderhoff.

Kyle Nielsen led the Tornadoes with a 36, with junior Aaron Clausen firing a 37.

Also for Storm Lake, Zach Peterson and Kyle Nitchals both shot 40s, with Travis Wendt and Ross Frederiksen shooting 45's.

Spencer Baak added a 40 for the Mustangs. Following were Lance Bellinghausen with a 42, Nathan Schumann with a 48 and Evan Franzmeier with a 51.

The Newell-Fonda JV team edged its Storm Lake counterparts, 177-182.

Leading the Mustang JV were Robert Devereaux and Kane Koster, who shared medalist honors with 43's. Noah Rubendall added a 45, Ben Westergaard a 46 and Tyler Wells a 50.

Leading the Tornado JV were Zach Miller and Ben Smith with 44's.

Tyler Gibbins added a 46 while Ben Tjaden and Will Hansen shot 48s. Junior Luke VanderWoude pitched in with a 50.
