'Holding Life' art exhibit opens at Forum gallery in May

Thursday, April 20, 2006

May 6th through 16th, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Forum Art Gallery at Buena Vista University will be presenting "Holding Life", a show of work from Katrina Thomas, a senior at Buena Vista University. The gallery and exhibition is open to the general public.

The show consists of her work in various media, including; painting and sculpture. The media are tied together through her own personal and unique style, as well as her subject focus.

It is evident that Thomas is passionate about what her work conveys. The bulk of her work shows expectant mothers with focus of the fetus inutero. Each piece fills the viewer with a strong sense of the emotional bond that is forming with the mother and child. The tone of her work is contemplative. It is the realization that while most people tend to think of the miracle of birth, some children do not come into this world in the most positive of circumstances. She often focuses on the peaceful beauty and serenity within the womb contrasted against the chaotic and possibly dangerous outside environment.
