The KTIV Quiz Bowl team from Schaller-Crestland competed March 18, in Savannah, MO as part of a regional national competition. Team members were seniors Michael Hatch, Andrea Cook, Vince Burhop, Junior Amy Hatch, and Sophomore Ben Currie. They traveled with eight other selected teams from the KTIV viewing area leaving on March 17 and arriving back on March 19.
The team completed three rounds of competition in the morning defeating Lewiston with a score of 310 - 125. The second game was against St. Joe Christian with a final upset of 215 - 260. The third game resulted in a win of 190 - 125 against Mid Buchanan. The 2 - 1 record allowed the Schaller-Crestland team to advance to the championship round in the afternoon.
The championship round was against Bishop LeBlond. After the first quarter, LeBlond was ahead 60 - 10. During the second quarter, LeBlond advanced to 110 points compared to Schaller-Crestland's 60. The third quarter allowed toss up questions with four possible bonus questions following. The opposing team was able to earn points with an instant rebound response within five seconds. Schaller-Crestland earned an additional 40 points during this while LeBlond earned only 15 points. During the 4th quarter, toss up questions earned teams 20 points for each correct response or rebounded question. With only three questions remaining in the round and Schaller-Crestland leading, LeBlond responded incorrectly but challenged that decision. Officials gave the school credit as another correct response, resulting in LeBlond defeating Schaller-Crestland 185-180.
While at this tournament, students were able to tour the Steamship Arabia, explore the Country Club Plaza, and attend a show at ComedySportz Comedy Club. The team is coached by Amy Schumacher.
