Time to register for Head Start

Tuesday, March 28, 2006

Applications are now being taken for enrollment for the new Head Start/Early Head Start school year, which will begin in the fall of 2006. Any child who is age 3 or 4 by Sept. 15, will be eligible to apply. Interested persons can apply by contacting Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc. (UDMO) Central Office at (712) 859-3885 or call 1-800-245-6151 to make arrangements to have the application completed at your convenience.

Early Head Start applications can be obtained by calling Jefferson School in Spencer, IA at (712) 264-8859. Early Head Start serves pregnant moms and children up to 3 years old in Clay County.

Head Start/ Early Head Start is not just a preschool, but instead is a comprehensive approach to enhancing the development of the child and family. Head Start emphasizes development of literacy skills for all children.

Parents who do not feel they would otherwise be able to provide a preschool experience for their three or four year old, or who have a child with disabilities, are especially encouraged to apply. Apply as soon as possible to insure this unique opportunity for your child. If you have any questions about the application, or the application process, please call our Central Office at 1-800-245-6151 and ask to visit with anyone working with the Head Start Program. Information about either program can also be obtained by calling your local Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc. outreach office at 110 West Railroad Street, Storm Lake, 50588 (712) 732-1757.
