Thursday, April 5, 2001

The Storm Lake Police took a report of a citizen's license plate being stolen from a vehicle while it was parked in the JC Penney's parking lot shortly after 7:15 p.m. Friday.

A witness was able to give a description of the suspect and described the type of vehicle he left in. At approximately 8 p.m., a Storm Lake police officer stopped a vehicle matching the suspect's car description in the 600 block of East Lakeshore Drive.

The driver was identified as a 16-year old male from Newell. Following an investigation, police determined the juvenile had stolen license plates not only in the JC Penney's parking lot, but Lake Point Villa, Buena Vista University, at an unknown location in Newell and recovered several license plates.

The juvenile was charged with two counts of Theft 5th Degree, a simple misdemeanor. The investigation is continuing with additional charges anticipated.

The juvenile was released to the custody of his parents. The file has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
