'Heartwarming'

Thursday, April 5, 2001

Storm Lake fire-victim family is thankful after SLHS students and the community come to their rescue.

The Ramiro Rendon family is thankful - for their lives, for their friends and for the strangers who have offered so much to a family that one day had suddenly very little.

The Rendons lost their home of three years in an early evening blaze two weeks ago. They escaped with little more than the clothes on their backs.

The Rendons have found a new house now, and said the donations have helped them get back on their feet. However, as with any tragedy, it is difficult.

"It's been terrible, but you have to keep going," Ramiro Rendon said.

The family includes Ramiro and Norma and three children, Josh, 15, Janet, 7, and Selena, 5. They lost all of their belongings in the fire that destroyed their home on West 8th Street.

The Humberto Denavidez and Laurencia Garcia family have also been flattered by the community support they've received since their home was extensively damaged the same night of the Rendon fire. They have been searching for housing as well.
