Spring is near, the arena is awaiting and the Cherokee Rodeo board is busy planning the three day event, scheduled for June 1, 2 and 3.
The Cherokee Rodeo is the largest professional rodeo in Northwest Iowa. Rodeo fans return each year for the three performances that offer top pro rodeo competitions, specialty acts and excellent rodeo stock raised on the Rafter B Bar ranch by the Barnes family near Peterson.
The Friday and Saturday shows will be held at 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 3 at 2 p.m.
Each performance will feature six events, including bare back riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, women's barrel racing, calf roping and steer wrestling. Professional cowboys and cowgirls from throughout the United States will enter to compete in the Cherokee Rodeo. Last year's list of competitors included PRCA world champion cowboys in several events and many others who competed in the recently finished National Finals Rodeo (NFR) held in Las Vegas, Nev.
In addition to the fierce competition, each performance by the Cherokee PRCA Rodeo includes specialty acts, rodeo royalty, bullfighting clowns, great food vendors and down home family fun.
