The Iowa Natural Resources Commission has approved a nighttime speed limit of 25 mph on all lakes in Dickinson County.
The commission approved the speed limit from a half-hour after sunset to sunrise during its meeting on Thursday in Centerville. A legislative rules committee must still approve it.
The issue surfaced last summer after a nighttime hit-and-run accident on West Lake Okoboji that killed Perry dentist Michael Brosnahan and injured his wife. The driver of the other boat is charged with drunken boating.
Currently, only Lake Delhi near Manchester has a night speed limit. It limits boats to 10 mph.
No discussions have been made of imposing a speed limit or wake restrictions for Storm Lake.
