The St. Mary's Ball and Charity Auction Committee will be giving away a 1/3 carat diamond necklace as part of the Mardi Gras Magic this year. Paxton's Jewelry has donated a 14k white gold pear shaped diamond pendant with a retail value of $840 for the popular Paxtons' Chest of Chance feature at St. Mary's Ball.
The ball will be held Saturday, March 25 at Buena Vista University's Siebens Forum Dows Grand Ballroom.
For a chance to win the necklace, ballgoers can purchase a Mardi Gras "grab bag" for a $25 donation per bag. There will be 90 Mardi Gras bags for sale in the ballroom during the cocktail hour 6-7:30 p.m. One of the bags will contain a certificate to win the diamond necklace.
New prizes this year include two MP3 players from the California Brooks Institute of Photography. Other prizes include $200, $100 and gift items from local businesses and colleges and universities from around the country.
St. Mary's Ball and Charity Auction - Mardi Gras Magic is the largest single fundraiser for the preK-12 Storm Lake parochial school. Last year, over $66,000 in profit was generated for the school.
Doors open at 6 p.m. for cocktail hour and silent auction bidding and jazz music provided by Iowa Central Community College's Jazz Band. Beer and wine cocktails will be provided by Central Bank until 10 p.m.
Live auction item bidding will begin at 7:30 p.m. sharp as the multi-course sit-down meal is served. At the conclusion of the live auction, a $10,000 Big Raffle winner will be drawn from the 400 tickets sold, as well as three $1,000 and three $500 winners.
The evening will conclude with dancing to the Omaha's On the Fritz band. Chairs for the event are Roger and Mary Timko with Robert and Kathy Fritz serving as co-chairs. Auction item chairs are Gina Hartman and Leigh Laven. Big Raffle sales chairs are Robert Lenhart and Mike Pertzborn. Dan Richardson is the Business Club chairperson.
Tickets to the St. Mary's Ball and Charity Auction are available for $45 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the St. Mary's office. Those attending the Fratzke and Jensen Mardi Gras Mixer pre-party at 5:15 p.m. can purchase tickets for a minimum of $175 per couple which include the mixer and the ball and auction events. Big Raffle tickets are still available for $100 each. Cash, check MasterCard and Visa are accepted. This event is open to the public.
