SLPD arrests California man on child abuse charges

The Storm Lake Police Department initiated an investigation into a report of sexual abuse on Tuesday.

The alleged abuse occurred between May of 1998 and January of 1999 involving a 14-year old female and her father at 729 Michigan Street.

Interviews were conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday in connection with the investigation and based on the information gathered, police obtained an arrest warrant charging Eduardo De La Paz, 66, of Bakersfield, Calif. with Sexual Abuse, 2nd Degree, a class B felony and Incest, a class D felony.

Storm Lake Police tracked De La Paz to Hermiston, Ore. and at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, he was arrested by the Hermiston Oregon Police Department. He is being held pending extradition back to Iowa.

The Storm Lake Police Department is currently working with the Bakersfield, California Police Department in regards to possible abuse that occurred in Bakersfield that involved De La Paz.

The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Iowa Department of Human Services, the Hermiston, Oregon Police Department and the Bakersfield, California Police Department.
