You'll never find Karl Peterson without a bag of balloons.
Peterson has been brightening people's day through his balloon creations for the past 15 years and this week brought his talent to the children at Alta's Wee Care preschool.
Peterson became interested in balloon creations while working at the Midwest Children's Home in Peterson. While traveling with the home, Peterson met a man who would make balloons for people. When his friend retired, he decided to get into the balloon creations himself.
"I bought some balloons and the pictures came with the package so I started playing around with them," Peterson said. "It just about exhausted me when I was blowing them all up, but I've never used a pump."
Peterson has taught himself how to create dogs, cats, flowers and hats of all sizes out of balloons. He takes his balloon-making talent to schools, nursing homes, parades, meetings and many other events where he entertains people.
Peterson uses his balloon creations as an attention-getter when speaking in public. He uses his balloons to build a relationship with his audience as he gives a spiritual message.
Peterson has spoke in every state that touches Iowa with the Children's Home and has been as far as Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic sharing his stories and balloons.
