Sara and Bradley Riley
Sara Mahr and Bradley Riley were united in marriage Aug. 27, 2005, in Cresco. They were married at Notre Dame Parish - Assumption Worship center with Father Richard Ament as the officiant.
Sara is the daughter of Thom and Janet Mahr of Lime Springs and the granddaughter of Gene and Judy Mahr of Lime Springs and Dolores Schatz of Cresco. Brad is the son of Keith and Denise Riley of Cherokee and the grandson of Howard and Ruth Meyers of Strawberry Point and Helen Riley of Emmetsburg.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a white scalloped strapless A-line gown. It had an asymmetric satin apron overlap with sequins on the skirt and matching details on the train. The bridesmaids wore satin Alfred Angelo burgundy gowns. They were a spaghetti strap, princess line gown featuring a wrap detail and a sweep train. The wedding colors were pink and burgundy. Decorations were provided by Joann Hildman, aunt of the groom. The bride's hair was done by Margaret Ward, aunt of the bride.
Sara's maid of honor was her older sister, Laura Mahr of Cresco. Her bridesmaids included: her younger sister, Shelby Mahr, Mandi VanderLinden, friend of the bride, and Melissa Berte, cousin of the groom. The flower girl was Hanna Ward, cousin of the bride. Brad's best man was his younger brother, Wade Riley of Cherokee. His groomsmen included: Nick Kehrwald, friend of the groom, Brian Berte, cousin-in-law of the groom, and Kyle Thomas, cousin of the bride. Caden Berte, second cousin of the groom, was the ring bearer. Don Schatz, uncle of the bride, and Marc Riley, cousin of the groom, were the ushers in the wedding. Brian Hrubes, uncle of the groom, and Katie Riley, cousin of the groom, were the singers while Wendy Schatz was the organist. Shelly Polashek and Heidi Arneson, friends of the bride, were Sara's personal attendants.
A reception and dance followed the ceremony at the Expo Center in Cresco. The bride's aunt and uncle, Donna and Kelly Thomas, and the groom's aunt and uncle, Bob and Joann Hildman, served as the host and hostess couples at the reception.
Sara graduated from high school at Crestwood High School in 2002. She then went on to Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. She is a senior at BVU pursuing a career in elementary education. She is currently student teaching in a first-grade classroom at Marcus, Meriden, Cleghorn (MMC) Elementary. Brad graduated from high school at Washington High School in 1998. He took some business classes at Western Iowa Technical Community College. He is now the manager of the Tire Service Center in Cherokee.
Sara and Brad took their honeymoon in January to Riviera Maya, Mexico. They stayed on a honeymoon resort south of Cancun for a week. They are currently living in Cherokee.
