House and Senate Democrats offered a package of legislation Friday to protect Iowa's senior citizens from threats to their financial and personal security.
The proposals target financial fraud and telemarketing scams, identity theft, and the lack of necessary home and community-based services.
"Senior citizens have long been targeted by criminals involved in fraud," said State Senator Amanda Ragan, co-chair of the Human Resources Committee. "Because of poor policies at the federal level, the shortcomings in our health care system also put Iowa seniors at risk." She claimed the proposals would "significantly improve the safety and well-being of Iowa seniors."
