Despite being hit hard by colds and the flu, the Schaller-Crestland wrestling team took eighth-place here Saturday in a 12-team invitational meet.
According to Schaller-Crestland coach Doug Davidson, six of his eight wrestlers placed in the meet..
Leading the way for the Wildcats were 152 pounder Matt Tielbur and 171 pounder Zach Stephens. Both took second places.
Tielbur reached the finals by winning his first match via fall and winning a 9-7 decision in his second match. He lost to Tyler Bates of RCL-Southern Cal in the 152-pound championship match.
Stephens knocked off the second seed at 171 in his first match, then handed the third seed a 6-3 loss. In the finals, Stephens lost a 12-4 decision in the finals to Zach Reis of Coon Rapids-Bayard.
At 125, Schaller-Crestland's Brett Pryor took fourth by going 2-2 on the day. Michael Weber had the same record, taking fourth at 275.
Ronnie Huseman and Nathan Frank both placed sixth, while Garrett Barlow and Brance Frehse both lost hard-fought decisions and did not place.
On Jan. 3, S-C beat WLVA 47-27 and lost to RCL-Southern Cal, 66-15.
Winners by forfeit for the Wildcats vs. WLVA were Huseman at 103, Shawn Schmitt at 119, Pryor at 125, Nathan Frank at 130, and Matt Tielbur at 152.
Winning by decision was Mark McDonough at 135, while Cory Naberhaus (145) and Weber at 275 won by falls.
