Country singer George Jones will be appearing in concert at the Stephens Auditorium on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames on Sunday, May 13.
Jones, who the New York Times called "the greatest living country singer" and whose miraculous recovery from a 1999 car accident served as a prelude to an inspirational creative comeback, returns to Iowa in a special Mother's Day concert, in a 7 p.m. show, his first in Ames, with special guest Ricky Lynn Gregg.
Jones first hit the charts in the 1950s. In April 1999, he celebrated the 40th anniversary of his first number one record "White Lightning." Through the decades, he transcended country music trends.
Whether the times have favored honky tonk songs or lushly produced and orchestrated "pop" offerings, Jones has continued to make his own brand of country music for the last six decades.
