Offenburger to be featured at ICCC event

Tuesday, March 27, 2001

Chuck Offenburger, known for his "Iowa Boy" columns during a long career with the Des Moines Register, will be the featured speaker for Iowa Central Community College's Night of Academic Excellence, on Thursday, April 19, 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium at the Fort Dodge campus.

Offenburger is now a writer-in-residence at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake and a columnist for The Iowan Magazine.

He is best known for his columns, many about the citizens of Iowa's small towns and rural areas, which he wrote four times weekly from 1977 through 1998, and for his involvement in the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) which he co-hosted with John Karras for 16 years.

Currently at Buena Vista University, Offenburger, 53, teaches reporting, advises the student newspaper and helps with marketing.

Iowa Central's Night of Academic Excellence honors Phi Theta Kappa students and Iowa Central Honor Society students.
