The Buena Vista University Training Education Program made noteworthy progress toward accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) when it was recently granted candidacy status.
Currently, the only CAAHEP-accredited athletic training program in the state is located at the University of Iowa. The Commission grants accredit-ation upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Athletic Training (JRC-AT).
Before applying for accreditation, a program must have candidacy status for two years. The JRC-AT has granted the BVU program candidacy status, and the University will submit a self-study of its athletic training program next year in preparation for a campus visit.
"Although being a candidate does not guarantee accreditation, it is an important step," said Angela Klingborg, director of BVU's athletic training program and instructor of exercise science.
