Three Storm Lake Iowa Jobs for America's Graduates students visited the state capitol in Des Moines last week to lobby for future I-JAG funding.
Representing the Storm Lake I-JAG program were Jenny Mitchell, 2000 graduate of Storm Lake Alternative High School, and Phouthai Inthongsay and Heather Jackson, class of 2001 students at SLHS.
The students met with Lt. Governor Sally Pederson, Senator Mary Lou Freeman and Representative Russ Eddie, along with other legislative representatives. The students handed out biographical pages of their recent experiences in school and the workforce, as well as fact sheets about Storm Lake I-JAG. The students were also able to sit in a meeting of the Senate Natural Resources and Environment Committee as it discussed can recycling.
The Storm Lake students encouraged the legislative representatives to continue financial support of Iowa Jobs for America's Graduates within the education budget of the Education Appropriation Bill.
