The Alta Boosters are introducing a new and fun fundraiser which will get underway today.
The group's goal has always been to raise funds to purchase sports equipment as well as items for the cheerleaders and dance line that cannot be paid for by the school's shrinking budget. In an effort to bring in more funds for the students the group did some creative thinking to come up with the new idea.
Donations of items, gift certificates and cash have been brought in, including a grand prize of a 52" flat screen color TV from Melanders.
Raffle tickets will be sold - one ticket for $2 or three tickets for $5 - through Feb. 10; winners will be announced at the varsity basketball game held that night vs. Newell-Fonda. You need not be present to win and if your name is drawn more than once, you may collect those prizes.
"We just want to support the kids and are putting a new twist on an old thing," said member Penny Payne.
There are a wide variety of items that could be yours: $25 from Alta-Mart, two large one topping pizzas from Casey's, one round of 18 holes of golf at Alta golf and Country Club, two $10 gift certificates from Scooters, four three-piece chicken dinners from Depot, gift certificate for 100 tanning minutes and tanning lotion from Nu Attitude, tickets for the races from Alta Raceway, lead crystal bowl from Peterson Jewelry, six car wash tokens from BV Raceway Car Wash, $25 gift certificate from Garden Gate, Pampered Chef product from Dawn Hill, wood carving from Jeff Bunjes, two family portrait packages from SGR Photography, wood item made by Kevin Pingel, t-shirts from BVU football and soccer, $50 certificate for Alta Cyclone clothing from Athletic Boosters, $50 meat bundle from HyVee, two boneless whole pork loins from Fareway, two butter breasts from Sara Lee, 30-minute massage from About Kneads, school activity passes from Alta Community School, gift pack with hair care products from Cameo. Other donations may come in and be added to this impressive list.
Making cash donations to this point include Professional Seeds, Gull Wing, Heritage Bank and Alta Implement. These donations will be used to offset the cost of the grandprize.
The Alta Boosters are planning to apply for a grant through Buena Vista county Foundation and it is hoped they receive a portion of it to assist in their endeavors.
The football field and track are two big areas that are needing some improvements.
The fundraiser has items to interest all ages - so get out there and buy a few tickets to show your support for the athletes, cheerleaders and dance line.
Tickets will be available at the junior high and varsity home basketball games and at Heritage Bank and Alta Implement.
The next Boosters meeting is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Depot. All parents/guardians of student athletes in grades 7-12 are Booster members. Everyone's help, support and ideas are needed. Please plan to attend.
