Sarah Freese, daughter of Dave and Kate Freese, a sixth grader at Alta Middle School, was selected to be a member of the Karl King Honor Band, based on teacher recommendations.
Students from several surrounding schools were selected and have had about a month to practice music that will be performed as a group.
The day of the concert, the kids audition for chair placement- playing the music that they have worked on and also memorized scales. A full day of rehearsal takes place with the concert, open to the public, to be held that evening.
This year's concert will be Jan. 14 at 5 p.m. in the gymnasium at St. Edmond Middle School in Ft. Dodge (501 N. 22nd St.) Parking is available on 22nd Street, in the lots in front and behind the school.
Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for students. No charge for kids under the age of 6.
The conductors for the honor band are Holli Safley for the 6th grade band and John Aboud for the 7-8 band.
