300th infant helps celebrate

Thursday, December 29, 2005

Every year, the first New Year's Baby is honored at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, but this year, one of the last to be born in the year saw an unusual party.

Medical center employees threw a celebration in honor of the 300th birth in 2005 at BVRMC. This was the first time reaching 300 since 1992. A medical center RN had the 301st baby, which added to the excitement.

A special quilt created by the Quilt Sew-Siety was presented to baby Stephany Arbizu and mother Victoria Francisco. Banners and a party table set up near the birthing unit added to festivities that included many members of the staff. Dr. Roy Grant delivered the 300th baby, with help from nurses Carolyn Gessner and Jen Magnussen.

The 301st baby delivered shortly afterward was Ashley Hinkeldey, daughter of Paula Hinkeldey, a nurse in the critical care unit, and husband Carey.
