Flu vaccine still available locally

Tuesday, December 20, 2005

Flu vaccine is still available at Trimark's Family Health Center and Buena Vista Clinic in Storm Lake.

"We are still giving shots," said Family Health Center Manager Ellen Anderson. Anderson said there is no prioritization as to which patients can receive vaccine. However, she said the clinic does not plan to order any more vaccine. "When it's gone, it's gone," Anderson said.

Anderson said that most regular patients who would have normally requested vaccine have received it. She has seen no particular target group of patients request vaccine. "We've had a range of people," Anderson said.

Family Health Clinic follows Center for Disease Control guidelines in recommending vaccine for certain groups, such as the elderly and those with respiratory problems.

Trimark Buena Vista Clinic has about 100 doses on hand, said Clinic Manager Daryl Pritchard. Those on the priority list have already received flu vaccine, so now the vaccine is dispensed on a first-come, first served basis, Pritchard said.

"The county's not out. Public Health is out," Pritchard said.

Those who want flu vaccine may contact Trimark Family Health Center at 732-6650 or 2015 W. Fifth St. or Trimark Buena Vista Clinic at 732-5030 620 Northwestern Drive, both in Storm Lake.
