Casino makes a bid for homeless rain forest project

Wednesday, December 14, 2005

CEDAR RAPIDS - Options are opening up for organizers of a proposed indoor rain forest.

One day after negotiations faltered with Coralville officials, the Environmental Project is being courted by private developers in Tiffin and Riverside. In Riverside, developers on Friday proposed building the rain forest near a 400-acre Washington County Casino Resort being built. The site contains a quarry, small lake and golf course.

A local source said casino officials have considered offering $10 million to lure the $180 million project.

Tiffin developers are pitching a 202-acre site on Interstate 80, about four miles west of the 22 acres Coralville had offered.
