The City of Storm Lake will be hosting a reception Monday afternoon in honor of the success of the 2000 Census.
Just completed, the 2000 Census shows population in Storm Lake growing by 15 percent to 10,076 persons in 2000.
The success of the census is in part, attributed to the diversity Storm Lake has to offer. Minority population in Storm Lake increased from 457 in 1990 to 2,981 in 2000, or 30 percent of the city's population.
"Storm Lake has bucked the population trend in this region and has become a dynamic, diverse, growing community. For this we need to celebrate our success," said Storm Lake Mayor Jon F. Kruse.
