Witter Art Gallery in Storm Lake is featuring a unique show this month, with dozens of works by alumni of soon-to-retire Buena Vista University art professor Mac Hornecker.
All of the artists, now residing all over the region, have agreed to honor Hornecker in this way. Due to the vast response from Hornecker alumni, a part of the show is also on display at the university art gallery in the BV Forum. Both exhibits are open to the public, free of charge. A special reception for Hornecker and many of the contributing artists will be held April 21 at 3 p.m. at the Witter, and 4:30-6 p.m. at the BVU gallery.
Above, Witter director Joleen Dentlinger takes an up-close look at a towering polished woodchain sculpture based on a wind turbine, by Dewane Hughes, a 2001 BVU graduate now at Missouri Southern State and up for a prestigious arts position in New York. Other works in the Hornecker alumni show range from abstract sculpture to realist paintings, relief canvas to stained glass.
Hornecker, an accomplished sculptural artist as well as an educator, will retire from BVU at the end of the academic year.
