SIOUX CENTER - Amy Wulfekuhler picked up where she left off last season.
The Storm Lake sophomore, who finished third in the long jump at the state meet last season, finished first in the event at the Lakes Conference indoor track and field meet Tuesday at Dordt College.
No team scores were kept in the meet.
Wulfekuhler won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 2 inches. Sophomore Stacy Schmidt captured the 55 meters in a time of 7.8 seconds. She also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 15-4.
Molly Daniels placed second in the 55 meters in 7.95 seconds, while Paige Havens was third in the 55 mter hurdles with a time of 9.3 seconds.
The 4x400 relay tandem of Katie Kruse, Amy Wulfekuhler, Steph Klar and Havens finished fourth in a time of 4 minutes, 42.3 seconds. Havens ran an impressive 1:05.6 anchor leg.
Jill Parman and Morae Youde both finished in the top six in the 55 meters with a time of 8.1 and 8.2 seconds, respectively.
The 4x800 relay team of Camie Boers, Klar, Lisa Bowman and Angie Pearson ran a time of 11:26, which was 36 seconds faster than a year ago.
The 4x200 tandem of Parman, Jess Jorgensen, Kruse and Schmidt finished in 2:03.25. Bowman ran the 1,500 meters in a time of 5:58.5.
"The girls really had a nice night and gave solid efforts," Storm Lake coach John Brostad said. "The assistant coaches have sone a fine job of helping the girls get ready."
Storm Lake will compete in the Midwest High School Indoor Championships on Saturday at Vermillion, S.D.
