High schools from all over the state are invited to participate in this annual fine arts show.
The University of Okoboji Art Show will conclude Monday, May 7, with a Young Artist workshop. The workshop will motivate high school students in their artistic endeavors with presentations by professional artists who will conduct some inventive hands-on experiences.
Cartoonist Dave Carpenter will be the keynote speaker and one of the workshop leaders. Carpenter has been cartooning since 1976 and his cartoons appear in such publications as "The Wall Street Journal," "Better Homes and Gardens," "The Saturday Evening Post," "Chicken Soup for the Soul" and many more.
The Eulenspiegel Puppet Troupe, formed in 1974, will also be workshop leaders. They select their performances from a large repertoire of international folk tales. They have performed both nationally and internationally. Eulenspiegel is known for original scripts, whimsical scenery and beautifully crafted puppets of all styles. They are the recipients of the 2000 Iowa Arts Award for long-term commitment to excellence in arts. High school students will be able to interact with their puppet potpourri performance. The Iowa Arts Council has granted money to Art World to bring in the Eulenspiegel Puppet Troupe, roster artists, for this special event.
