Harold Friedrich, age 92, died Sunday, Oct. 30 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 2 at St. John Lutheran Church, Alta, with Pastor Mark Abraham officiating. Burial was at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Alta. Visitation was held Tuesday, Nov. 1 with the family present. Barker Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
Harold Henry Friedrich was born on September 22, 1913, to Wilhelm and Christine (Lange) Friedrich on their farm east of Hanover settlement, southwest of Alta. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Hanover. Harold attended Hanover Parochial School through the 8th grade.
On October 1, 1939, Harold was united in marriage to Frances Doris Bremer at St. John Mira Valley Church, Ord, Nebraska.
Harold farmed near Aurora, South Dakota until 1946 and then returned to Alta, where he farmed until his retirement. In March of 2002, he entered Methodist Manor, Storm Lake. In addition to holding offices at St. John Lutheran Church, he was also a member of the REC Board.
Harold will be remembered as a devoted husband and father.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances; six brothers: Walter, William, Herman, Clarence, Arthur, and Ernst; an infant sister, Esther; one son, James Lee Friedrich; and one grandson, Robert Symonsbergen.
He is survived by one daughter, Dorothy and her husband Richard Symonsbergen of Nebraska City, Neb.; two sons, David and his wife Patricia of Alta and Duane and his wife Elizabeth of Houston, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Charlene Friedrich of Courtland, Minn.; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Lois Michael and Ava Michael, both of Brookings, South Dakota; one cousin, Ella Meyer of Battle Creek, Neb.; and many other relatives and friends.
